You will run into issues with the oil at some point. Labor costs are priced between 45 and 54 while parts are priced between 79 and 82. The expected cost for a Chevrolet Equinox oil change is between 114 and 126. Be certain to place a drain pan beneath prior to doing so as you will spill. The oil filter location on the 2015 Chevy Equinox is just below the top of the engine. Once you’ve safely supported the vehicle, firmly hold the housing while removing the filter cap from the bottom. It took longer to jack the car up and take off the right rear tire than it did to remove the filter. Not sure why they were so cheap but maybe I'll find out when I go to use them! They all came with the Craftsman lifetime warranty. No need to replace the housing unless it’s damaged. Also bought a couple more Craftsman strap wrenches for $2.50 each! Both were on sale. This video shows the location of the oil drain plug, oil filter, oil fill cap and dipstick in addition to the steps needed to change the oil and filter in your Equinox. Recently bought a couple sets of Craftsman Filter Pliers because I stumbled upon them at a Sears service center and they were so cheap (~$8). The owners manual will indicate if your 2018 Equinox takes 0W-20, 0W-30, 5W-20, 5W-30 or 10W-30. I use a 3/4" wide metal strap wrench to remove the filter and just my hand (with a rubber glove for better grip) to tighten new filter on (although sometimes finish up with an extra 1/4 turn with the strap wrench). Without this "lip", the oil would simply dribble down the side of the block, creating multiple streams to the pan - *that's* messy! No real problems with "mess" because the Nox has that formed metal "lip" off the block just below the filter which creates a nice neat (single) downward stream to your pan. I've removed my filter from the top and bottom, but more often the bottom because I'm down there anyway for the oil drain plug. The filter is 1/2 shorter than the ACDelco filter which means it doesn't jam against the fan housing. I've been using Purolator's filters for my Nox. I don't speed but I do move with the flow of traffic whatever the speed within reason. Also, I have always gotten better mpg than sticker by at least 10% to 12% on all my vehicles. I've had two mechanics at a dealer comment to me that the car/truck I had seemed more responsive than the average owners of the same kind. I also used to put Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel the first 1,500 miles or so as an upper cylinder lubricant to help seat and gently wear in rings and valves. On past new cars I've gone as little as 1,500 miles for the first oil change. GM used to spec more zinc anti scuff additives in the first oil put into the engines at the factory. That used to be true, not sure if it still is. Other people say that it's better to wait and leave the "break in" oil in at least 3,000 miles. But I think it's good to change the first one at 3,000 miles or earlier. I told her to go at least 4,000 miles or she will use up her free oil changes in no time. Our daughter bought a 2014 Sonic LT in July and she had her 1st and 2nd oil changes at 3,500 miles and 7,800 miles with 55% or so left on the OLM each time.
